If you haven’t heard Humbug yet, the newest release from Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys, be prepared to have your face slowly and painfully peeled back by the halting power and thunderous riffs of the group’s heaviest record yet. With a howling croon more reminiscient lead singer Alex Turner’s previous release, his one-off record as half of The Last Shadow Puppets, the tracks on the band’s third album seethe and melt with like butter on brimstone. Coupled with some of the best instrumentation that the Monkeys have ever conjured from their dark bag, Humbug is one of the best releases bar none of the year so far. Definitely pick it up at the earliest opportunity and check out these Japanese-release-only b-sides below.
(apparently the Arctic Monkeys don’t want free press because they sicked the ‘Web Sheriff’ on me – whatever you do, do not buy this album now)
HEARTSREVOLUTION IN AUSTIN Performing at the most hipster bar in Austin, Beauty Bar, and surrounded by obnoxiously dressed scenester kids, Brooklyn’s infamous Heartsrevolution nonetheless belted out an inspiring rage-filled set of electronic-tinged punk with enough energy to enthrall even the coolest of wallflowers. Starting off with crowd-pleaser “Choose Your Own Adventure” Lo and Ben stomped through their now famous SwitchbladeEP with reckless abandon, invoking a half dance party half most pit in the front row. For her part, Lo impressed the most as while Ben stoodand methodically pumped out beats on his keyboard, she crawled over the ground, bounced around constantly, and screamed even between songs, barking orders at the sound-guy in her own cutesy but fearsome way. All in all, that’s how I’d best describe the evening, a combination of cute, dancey tunes with fiery, explosive punk rock. It’s as if fire and snow or foxes and bunnies had met up together. Hmm……More pictures below. Sad because the video was strangely cool, featuring an MF Doom lookalike. Instead, check out this completely official video for “Courtship Dating” one of our favorite CC songs of all time. Enjoy!
Crystal Castles – “Knights” ******************************************************************** ARCTIC MONKEYS REVEAL NEW LIVE DVD According to Pitchfork we’ll soon be seeing an Arctic Monkeys live DVD, which is welcome news considering the dearth of new AM material as of late, besides the excellent Last Shadow Puppets LP from Alex Turner. Here’s hoping the group puts out more material or even their third LP soon!

My Morning Jacket’s first Saturday Night Live appearance apparently happened over the weekend, much to my dismay as I had not planned to record it. More details will obviously be forthcoming (what songs, hopefully a video, etc) but until then, here’s a taste of some live action MMJ has done on TV shows in the past!
******************************************************************** SLOW WEEKEND – I ADDED ADSENSE
So yeah, slow weekend on the music news front but hey, let it be known I added AdSense so click on the ads a few times over there on the right margin. Also, look what Yahoo are apparently selling!
Cannibal Huge selection of Cannibal items. Yahoo.com
That’s right, if you’re looking to buy a Cannibal or cannibal related items, Yahoo is the place to go!
That said, this week I’ll start posting some longer reviews/articles I’ve done recently for the viewing public. Look for reviews (that I’ll actually be submitting to magazines and such) for My Morning Jacket, Death Cab for Cutie, Converge, and the Last Shadow Puppets (who do indeed rock). See everyone tomorrow!s
