If Swedish songstress Fever Ray, aka Karin Dreijer Andersson of the Knife, decided to make a video for every song from her self-titled debut album you wouldn’t hear any argument from this die-hard fan. Capturing the same dark mystique as her previous efforts while injecting new levels of voodoo horror, the video for new single “Seven” features some terrifying farmhouses, bizarre costuming, and an aging woman seemingly representing Andersson reminiscing on her life. One step away from animal sacrifices at this point, check it out.

Old Hearts

NEW WHISPERTOWN 2000 VIDEO

One of our favorite folksy American bands The Whispertown 2000 have released a video for their song “Old Times” off their new album Swim. Check it below, sepia-tinged tones over a sepia-tinged youth football game! Fits the song perfectly.

TRYOUTS: FEVER RAY’S FEVER RAY
Today’s announcement of the rush release of Fever Ray’s self-titled debut tomorrow comes hot on the heels of the album’s leak to multiple torrent sites, where the heated anticipation for Karen Dreijer’s (of the Knife) solo effort flooded clients all day. The hype is not without merit, as Fever Ray maintains the cold, eerie electronica and vibrant tribal instrumentation as promised by the first single “If I Had A Heart”. Underlying the creepiness however is an expansiveness heretofore undiscovered in the music of Dreijer’s other act, with cool swaths of electronics washing over the listener as the sharp bark of the Swedish songstresses voice propels each song along. With drumming like the yelping of wild dogs and wild experimentalist rhythms reminiscient of a High Places b-side, Fever Ray sounds surprisingly loose and firey under the crisp melodies. A highly recommended album, one of the best of 2009. First of the gang to make the team.

KITSUNE RELEASES HEARTSREVOLUTION SINGLE
The tastemakers of at Kitsune have clearly been reading a lot of Cannibal Cheerleader, as they’ve come to discover how awesome Brooklyn thrash-electronica artists Heartsrevolution and are releasing “Ultraviolence” as a single on their label. Definitely pick up a copy if only for an awesome Spank Rock remix.

Fever Dream

FEVER RAY RELEASE NEW VIDEO

We here at Cannibal Cheerleader would call ourselves mild fans of the Knife, the electro-pop duo hailing from Sweden. However, after hearing the first single from Fever Ray, the solo effort from Karin Dreijer (the female half of the duo) we’re ten times as excited about the prospect of more haunting electronic musings. What cemented it for us here though is the absolutely terrifying and wholly enjoyable new video for single “If I Had A Heart”. Check it out below and watch for Dreijer sporting what will no doubt be our Halloween costume this year.

NEW BAND CHEER: NITE JEWEL
Having heard of the Italians Do It Better songstress Nite Jewel for several months now but unsure as to whether or not her lo-fi dance pop deserved the praise it was garnishing, I picked up her new album Good Evening with some trepidation. However, I found myself instantly attracted to the tunes once the record started spinning. With a homespun, 8-track feel mixed with warm dreamy licks, Nite Jewel might just be the most unique musician on the IDIB label. Recommendations aplenty for this artist, especially if you’re the type to dance alone in your room.
