We’ve been huge fans of Neko Case since her Blacklisted days (and we still can’t get over how awesome Fox Confessor was), so we were ecstatic to nab a copy of the Canadian soulstress’ new LP Middle Cyclone, which definitely does not dissapoint. Featuring hushed instrumentation backing Case’s powerful voice, the album is her most organic yet, due in no small part to the recording location of an abandoned farmhouse. With much shorter songs featuring small vignettes about the multitude of wild characters Case has been known for, Middle Cyclone combines experimentalism with alt-country stalwarts to create one of our favorite albums of the year so far. Give it a sample listen below.
We’re still anxiously awaiting the newest release from Giant Drag, the Swan Song EP, and Annie Hardy continues to tease us, this time with a short excerpt from an upcoming music video for standout track “Stuff to Live For”. Apparently the new video is going to feature Annie being covered with a whole variety of disgusting liquids, so be sure and check it below.
Kylesa just conducted an interview with the influential online metal mag Crusher Magazine. Check it out here and stay tuned for the new album Static Tensions which we hope to grab a copy of ASAP!
Anticipation for the new album Middle Cyclone (out March 3rd on Anti-) from Canadian crooner Neko Case is reaching a fever pitch after the release of her first single “People Got A Lotta Nerve”, a barnburning two-and-a-half minute track about killer whales, maneaters, and all sorts of cannibalistic goodies. Definitely our type of song. Give it a listen below and stay-tuned for when the full album drops any day now!
According to a short post on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs website today, the band revealed their third LP will be released sometime this spring and will be called It’s Blitz! That’s all the information we’ve got right now, but this album can’t come soon enough!
With 2009 coming on strong, we can all admit that it’s about time the last two years ended, and not just because we’re ready to get the ’so-called’ Texan out of the White House. We’re talking about the length of time between the last Neko Case album Fox Confessor Brings the Flood and the upcoming Middle Cyclone. We’ve had quite a few stories already about this highly anticipated release, but we just stumbled across a live version of an upcoming track and had to share it with everyone. Here’s Neko performing “I’m An Animal”:
Be still my heart! This album’s gonna be a doozy. Be on the lookout for it in March (or a little before, knowing us!).
Our favorite Patsy-Cline referencing singer-songwriter Neko Case just released her electronic press kit (EPK) for her upcoming album Middle Cyclone out on Anti on March 3rd. Check it out below, sounds like it’ll feature some awesome songs with the same wistful country flavor (we’re particularly looking forward to ‘This Tornado Loves You’).
The new album from Neko Case now has a name (Middle Cyclone), a release date (March 3rd, 2009) a tracklist (below) and one hell of an album cover (above!). Check that bad boy out! We eagerly awaits Case’s followup to the fantastic Fox Confessor Brings the Flood so here’s looking out!

NEKO CASE WORKING ON FOX FOLLOWUPAccording to our friends at Pitchfork, one of our favorite Patsy-Cline-referencing alt-country megastars Neko Case is hard at work recording her followup to 2006’s awesome Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. Any new material from Case is cause for excitement here at Cannibal Cheerleader so we’re absolutely stoked. Neko Case will be performing at this year’s ACL Festival in Austin, so be sure and check her out!
