LISSY TRULLIE ‘BOY BOY’ VIDEO. More news trickling out from the Lissy Trullie camp with today’s release of the official video for their single “Boy Boy”. Check it out below – we’ll be sure and cover these NYC garage-rockers up until their May 26th show at Emo’s! Lissy Trullie – Boy Boy (Official Music Video)
Lissy Trullie – “You Bleed You” ******************************************************************** FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE UPDATE. Seems like one of our favorite acts from across the pond Florence and the Machine has been making quite the name for herself in the UK, what with recently winning the Critic’s Choice Awards at the Brit Awards. Seems now the band is prepping for the release of their debut LP Lungs in July and you know us at Cannibal Cheerleader will be covering it!
Florence and the Machine – “Dog Days Are Over” ******************************************************************** GLASS CANDY AT MOHAWK’S. Our favorite haunted-dance maestros Glass Candy are careening through their brand of blood-soaked electro-disco this Saturday at Mohawk’s here in Austin. Cannibal Cheerleader is in need of some correspondents to take some photos or hey, even a video of the event! Anyone interested? Either way, make sure and hit up this fantastic act, it’s sure to be an incredible time.
Glass Candy – “Nite Nurses” ******************************************************************** JEMINA PEARL IS A SEX ZOMBIE? Still been reading Puke Til You Punk on a daily basis, covering the antics and activities of Be Your Own Pet’s former frontwoman and now solo artist Jemina Pearl, and seems as if the punker has come up with a name for her and John Eatherly’s new group: Sex Zombie. This new band will feature the two trading off on guitar and drum duties according to this post. Is Pearl playing a joke on her fans? We sure hope not – Sex Zombie is probably the greatest name for a band we’ve ever heard.
Comments? Soon Cannibal Cheerleader will be changing format, focusing more on hardcore, metal, and generally horror-related music materials. This doesn’t mean we’ll stop covering the likes of Lissy Trulie or Action Design (we’ve always thought of M and Lissy as slasher film heroines, definitely worthy of covering). Still, that might mean less Belle & Sebastian, less twee in general, and more blood-soaked rampaging Wolves in the Throne Room videos. Change is good, bear with us folks, and hail to the horror.
GLASS CANDY RARITIES FOR FREE. Long-standing Cannibal Cheerleader favorites Glass Candy have been ripping their brand of haunted disco for over a decade now, and as one might imagine the duo of Ida No and Johnny Jewel have racked up quite the collection of recordings to show for it, given the group’s penchant for Tour CDRs available only at live shows. Dozens of tracks remain hidden except to the select few who were lucky enough to be at some of the group’s earliest shows when the group was still Glass Candy & The Shattered Theater – that is, hidden until now! The good people at Pukekos have assembled a massive collection of long-forgotten Glass Candy Tour CDRs for your free download. Definitely check out the live (hard-rocking!) version of “Nite Nurses” or the early renditions of “Metal Gods”. Very worthwhile collection if you’re interested in seeing the evolution of an underground indie rock act. Killer stuff.
Glass Candy & The Shattered Theater – “Nite Nurses” Glass Candy & The Shattered Theater – “Back in NYC” ******************************************************************** NEW BAND CHEER: PULL IN EMERGENCY. Perusing the music forums over the weekend as we here at Cannibal Cheerleader are apt to do between watching schlock horror flicks, we came across an act that we were instantly excited about: London’s Pull In Emergency, a quintet of high-schoolers from the UK who combine indie-pop sensibilities with a lo-fi garage rock edge, sounding a bit like the Strokes fronted by a bored Corin Tucker. With these guys and Lissy Trullie making black leather cool again one can only hope we’ll start seeing a trend soon. Get in on these guys now before “Planes” becomes this year’s summer jam (sorry for the low quality radio rip!). Also check out the video for fantastic single “Silence” below.
Pull In Emergency – “Follow” Pull In Emergency – “Planes” ******************************************************************** SPINNERETTE ON TWITTER. Everybody else is doing it, so why doesn’t Spinnerette’s inimtiable frontwoman Brody Dalle do the same? Turns out the ex-Distiller has her own Twitter account now and will be tweeting about the progress on her group’s upcoming self-titled debut throughout the summer. Here’s hoping we get an mp3 of new single “Baptized By Fire” soon!
PS. That’s the cover for the new album. Sexy but dangerous.

Glass Candy – “Nite Nurses” ******************************************************************** TRYOUTS – THE WHISPERTOWN 2000’s SWIM Morgan Nagler is credited on Rilo Kiley’s Under the Blacklight for helping pen the smoldering “Dreamworld”, a whistful smoky lullaby about misfits, dreams, and unfulfilled passions. While Blake Sennett and company covered the song with syrupy synths, the song’s storyteller edge shone forth, as do the tunes on Nagler’s new effort Swim with her band the Whispertown 2000. With a spareness that feels like a country-rock confessional mixed beautifully with Nagler’s plaintative lonely vocals, Swim speaks of the same passion and dreams of the band’s Blacklight contribution but does so with a Southern charm that produces remarkable genuineness. This is indie-rock at its most convincing, scratchy vinyl in the back of the record shop, hidden gems at the deep end of the CD bin. Nagler and her swaggering cohorts have spun a record of infectious country-indie-rock in classic form. Definitely makes the team but may have trouble doing cheerleading moves in those cowboy boots.
NEW VIDEO FROM GLASS CANDY Quick little update today before I rush off to the Action Design show here in Austin! Pitchfork has a new Glass Candy live video up from the Midi Festival and since we absolutely love GC here at Cannibal Cheerleader, we’ll post it here. Check it:
