Cannibal Cheerleader faithful -
The music blog you’ve come to know and love is changing. There will be gnashing of teeth and cries of outrage but the changes come on like a swarm nonetheless. This blog, for all its merits, was drowning in a sea of similarly fashioned, mp3-centric websites merely exchanging tidbits of hype-filled news amongst small ‘indie’ circle, adding little original content to each developing story. Over time for all its merit I have felt mired in the music blogging community. What originally began as a writing exercise, a device to encourage daily scribblings and to facilitate a creative outlet, became a chore, a duty, rather than a joy. Visitors to the site would on the whole and by their own admission not even so much as skim through my carefully written articles, vying instead for the free music I provided without appreciating the personal touch I sought to add to the download.
That time is over. New beginnings are underway.
Cannibal Cheerleader is now, as it began, a vehicle for my literary musings – be they music reviews, interviews, poetry, short stories, culture pieces, political diatribes or what have you. Cannibal Cheerleader is not a music blog but an artistic medium through which I can spill out my proverbial artistic ‘blood and guts’ to those who would take the time to read. Therefore, the format has been simplified and updates, while more regular, will soon take the shape of fictional short stories about rock music, poetic accompaniment as opposed to an album review, or articles about various parts of the music world. Make no mistake, music will still play an integral part of the Cannibal Cheerleader experience, as it has from the beginning of not only this creation but of my artistic becoming, though the songs themselves, the downloadable content, will no longer be so central an idea. Less pictures, less videos, less mp3s, more creative, explosive, blood-soaked writing. I invite all my readers to join me on this artistic journey that I hope to keep up for years on end. The carnage has only just begun – and we’re still very hungry.
Cannibal Cheerleader
1 : A participant in American cheer-based practices who has turned on the student body, abandoned social mores, and taken it upon himself/herself to consume fellow humans.
2 : A horror-themed blog created by Austin, Texas-based writer and artist John Bradley
3 : A metaphor for the state of being where the vile and unspeakable underlies a traditionally renowned position in society at large.
Blood and guts forever.
