Used To Dream
Dallas-based duo and long-standing Cannibal Cheerleader faves Beach House exist in that slow-burning middle ground between the lo-fi punk junk and the overly melodramatic indie instrumental swell, crafting a modest but nonetheless sensual combination of haunting female vocals, minimalist keyboard tracks, and swirling rhythms. Their newest LP, entitled Teen Dream in the pair’s classic understated style, takes their template and injects a dose of upbeat danceability and careening, whimsical instrumentation to create their brightest and most unique record to date. Extending their sound to new heights while still utilizing the inimitable croon of Victoria Legrand, the band comes across as a shoe-gazing, lo-fi Glass Candy with organs instead of synths. An incredible record to start the year on! Definitely check it out.
