BLOC PARTY PLANNING ANNOUNCEMENT?
Yesterday afternoon our favorite British post-punkers Bloc Party posted an enigmatic Myspace Bulletin exclaiming “every half hour is a countdown” (this line of course being a lyric from the band’s classic early single “Little Thoughts”) and a timer counting down to something unknown. When the time reached zero another Myspace bulletin appeared, this time saying only this:

BLOC PARTY.

ZANE LOWE
BBC RADIO ONE
97-99 FM
BBC. CO. UK/RADIO1

7:30PM BST
07 JULY 2008

This of course begs the question, what could this all mean? Are our boys in Bloc Party announcing a new single? The release date of their new record? Special tour dates? Whatever it may be you know we’ll post about it here at Cannibal Cheerleader so stay tuned for further developments.

WHAT LAURA SAYS TO SWING THROUGH AUSTIN
In what will surely be a practice in patience for us freak-folk-loving Austinites, Tempe’s What Laura Says will be touring through our town at the end of the month July 29th at Stubb’s. Check out this video for “American African” (which sounds and looks neither African or American for that matter) in order to satiate your WLS needs and of course, be on the lookout for the Thinks and Feels LP out August 19th.

NEW BAND CHEER: TAT
A female-fronted trio from the UK that draws cursory comparisons to a British Distillers (one of my favorite acts of all time by the way) TAT whips up a brand of thoughtful rock with a more post-modernist slant than most punk acts. With tracks like “Champagne, Cocaine, and Strawberries”, TAT are clearly an act both living the rock dream of excess while at the same time commenting on its nihilism. With a three-chord assault and pop aesthetics reminiscent of acts like Rancid, TAT are far too good a band to be mucking around on the Warped Tour. Alas, that’s with whom the band are currently touring, though afterwards they plan a nationwide jaunt spanning coast to coast. Check out their EPK video for a great introduction to the band and their justifiably rabid fanbase and watch for their debut album which drops at the end of the summer!

Also, as the title suggests, this is my 100th Cannibal Cheerleader post! Thanks to all the readers! Comments people?
